Before users can sign in to Experience Builder for the first time, an ArcGIS Application must be created and configured within your ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise environment.

This application provides the Client ID used by Experience Builder to authenticate users using ArcGIS OAuth.

This is typically a one-time setup task performed by an ArcGIS administrator.

### Step 1 – Sign In to ArcGIS

Sign in to your ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise portal using an account with privileges to create applications.

### Step 2 – Create a New Application

Navigate to:

Content → New Item → Application

**Create a new application.**

Suggested values:

| **Setting** | **Value** |
| --- | --- |
| Title | Managed Experience Builder |
| Tags | experience builder |
| Summary | OAuth application for Managed Experience Builder |

You may choose different values if preferred.

### Step 3 – Open the Application Settings

Once the application has been created:

1. Open the application item.
2. Select the **Settings** tab.
3. Locate the **Application** section.
4. Configure OAuth credentials.

### Step 4 – Add Redirect URIs

Add the redirect URI provided by Managed Experience Builder.

### Step 5 – Save the Application

Save your changes.

ArcGIS will generate a Client ID for the application.

### Step 6 – Copy the Client ID

Locate the application's Client ID.

Copy this value.

You will use it when signing in to Experience Builder for the first time.

Example:

`ABCD1234EFGH5678IJKL`

### Step 7 – Complete Experience Builder Setup

Return to the Experience Builder sign-in page.

1. Select your portal.
2. Enter the Client ID.
3. Select **Sign in**.
4. Complete ArcGIS authentication.

Once successful, the Client ID will be associated with the Managed Experience Builder environment and will be available to other authorised users.

### Frequently Asked Questions

#### Do I need to create an application for every user?

No.

Only one ArcGIS Application is required for each Managed Experience Builder environment.

#### Do I need to create an application for every builder session?

No.

The Client ID is stored after the initial setup and is reused for future sessions.

#### Can I change the Client ID later?

Yes.

If your ArcGIS Application is replaced or recreated, an administrator can update the Client ID by signing in again using the new application.

#### Can I use an existing ArcGIS Application?

Yes.

Any ArcGIS Application configured with the correct redirect URI can be used.

However, Cartinuum recommends creating a dedicated application specifically for Experience Builder.
