Managed Experience Builder for ArcGIS includes support for the [Cartinuum widget collection](https://extensions.cartinuum.com/?category=79).

Unlike other custom widgets, Cartinuum widgets are already installed and available within the Managed Experience Builder environment. No widget import or installation process is required.

Once licensed, Cartinuum widgets appear alongside standard Experience Builder widgets within the widget panel.

### How Cartinuum Widgets Work

Cartinuum widgets are pre-installed within Managed Experience Builder and are available to all builder sessions.

To use a widget, your organisation must have:

- A valid widget license
- A license that matches your registered ArcGIS portal

When a licensed widget is added to an application, the widget automatically validates the license during operation.

### Using a Cartinuum Widget

To add a Cartinuum widget to an application:

1. Open Experience Builder.
2. Create a new application or edit an existing application.
3. Open the widget panel.
4. Locate the Cartinuum widget.
5. Drag the widget into your application.
6. Add the license file in the widget settings panel.
7. Configure the widget as required.

### Licensing

Cartinuum widgets are licensed separately from Managed Experience Builder. You can download your license files from your Cartinuum account page.

Licenses are issued for a specific ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise portal.

This means:

- Widgets licensed for one portal cannot be used on another portal.
- Production and non-production portals typically require separate licenses.
- Licenses remain valid across builder sessions and deployments.

### Checking Your License

Cartinuum widgets include a licensing status panel within the widget configuration.

If a valid license is present, no further action is required.

If a license cannot be validated, the widget will display an appropriate licensing message.

### Updating Cartinuum Widgets

Cartinuum periodically releases widget updates that may include:

- New functionality
- Bug fixes
- Performance improvements
- Compatibility updates

Because Cartinuum widgets are pre-installed within Managed Experience Builder, updates are managed by Cartinuum.

When an updated version becomes available, it will be installed into the Managed Experience Builder environment and made available to future builder sessions.

### Builder Updates vs Deployed Applications

When Cartinuum releases a widget update, the updated version becomes available within the Managed Experience Builder authoring environment.

Existing deployed applications are not automatically updated.

This means:

- New builder sessions will have access to the latest widget version.
- Existing deployed applications continue using the version that was deployed.
- End users are not affected by widget updates until a new deployment is performed.

To make a widget update available to end users:

1. Open the application in Experience Builder.
2. Review and test the updated widget.
3. Publish the application.
4. Deploy the application using Managed Experience Builder.

This approach provides a controlled deployment process and helps prevent unexpected changes to production applications.

#### Why is this important?

Separating widget updates from deployed applications allows organisations to:

- Test widget updates before releasing them to end users.
- Control when changes are introduced into production.
- Avoid unexpected changes to business-critical applications.
- Maintain stable and predictable application behaviour.

This means a deployed application that has been tested and approved will continue operating as expected until you choose to publish and deploy a newer version.

### Custom Widget Development

If the functionality you require is not currently available, Cartinuum can develop custom Experience Builder widgets tailored to your organisation's requirements. Please contact our support team if you would like a custom widget to be developed.

Custom-developed widgets can be licensed and made available within your Managed Experience Builder environment.
