[The Layer Style Editor widget](https://extensions.cartinuum.com/product/layer-style-editor/) lets users change polygon layer symbology directly inside an ArcGIS Experience Builder app.

Use this widget when users need to explore patterns in polygon data by applying unique values, graduated colours, or class breaks without editing the original layer.

## What this widget does

Layer Style Editor reads polygon layers from the connected map and lets users select an attribute to style. Users can preview colour distributions, apply a renderer, and reset the layer back to its original symbology.

## When to use it

Use Layer Style Editor when users need to:

- Style polygon layers by attribute.
- Compare different classification methods.
- Apply colour ramps to numeric or categorical data.
- Explore patterns in census, risk, planning, operational, or administrative boundary layers.
- Temporarily change map styling during analysis.

## Key features

- Polygon layer selection from the map.
- Attribute selection for styling.
- Unique value styling.
- Graduated colour styling.
- Class breaks with configurable classification methods.
- Preset colour ramps.
- Per-class colour overrides.
- Reverse colour ramp option.
- Preview before applying symbology.
- Reset to original layer symbology.
- English, French, and Spanish translations.

## Requirements

- [ArcGIS Experience Builder 1.14 or later](https://developers.arcgis.com/experience-builder/guide/release-versions/).
- A Map widget in the Experience Builder app.
- Polygon feature layers with usable attributes.
- A valid Cartinuum widget license.

## Before you begin

Before configuring Layer Style Editor:

1. Add a Map widget to your Experience Builder app.
2. Confirm that the map contains polygon layers.
3. Confirm that the layers include the attributes users should style by.
4. Install or enable the widget using the standard widget installation process.
5. Add the widget license.

For installation and licensing steps, see [Widget Installation](https://help.cartinuum.com/space/WC/4255481886/Widget+Installation).

2. Add the Layer Style Editor widget to the page.
3. Open the widget settings.
4. Add the widget license.
5. Select the Map widget.
6. Save and publish the Experience Builder app.

## Use the widget

1. Open the Experience Builder app.
2. Open Layer Style Editor.
3. Select a polygon layer.
4. Select an attribute.
5. Choose a renderer type.
6. Choose a colour ramp and classification options.
7. Preview the result.
8. Apply the symbology.
9. Reset the layer if you want to restore the original styling.

## Renderer types

### Unique values

Use unique values for categorical attributes such as status, type, zone, or category.

### Graduated colours

Use graduated colours for numeric values where a smooth colour transition is useful.

### Classification

Use classification to group numeric values into class breaks.

Supported classification methods include:

- Natural breaks
- Equal interval
- Quantile
- Standard deviation

## Troubleshooting

### No layers are available

Check that the map contains polygon feature layers and that a Map widget has been selected in settings.

### An attribute does not appear

Check that the attribute exists on the selected layer and is supported for the selected renderer type.

### Symbology does not apply

Check that:

- The layer is a polygon layer.
- A supported attribute has been selected.
- The layer has finished loading.
- The license is valid.

### I want to restore the original style

Use Reset Symbology to restore the layer's original renderer.
