[The Emergency Response Guide widget](https://extensions.cartinuum.com/product/emergency-response-guide/) helps users assess hazardous material incidents by creating isolation and protective action zones on an ArcGIS Experience Builder map.

Use this widget when users need to create incident response zones based on hazardous material guidance and display those zones in a map-based workflow.

## What this widget does

Emergency Response Guide creates hazard zones from a spill location and hazardous material information. It is based on Esri’s Web AppBuilder Emergency Response Guide widget pattern, which references the 2020 Emergency Response Guidebook.

The widget can create Initial Isolation Zone and Protective Action Zone graphics, and may also support related emergency response zones such as downwind, fire isolation, and BLEVE isolation zones depending on the selected material and conditions.

## When to use it

Use Emergency Response Guide when users need to:

- Assess hazardous material spill or release scenarios.
- Generate isolation zones.
- Generate protective action zones.
- Consider spill size, wind direction, time of spill, and material-specific guidance.
- Display response guidance directly on a map.
- Publish generated zones to an operational layer, if configured.
- Support emergency response planning and communication.

## Key features

- Hazard zone generation for emergency response workflows.
- Spill location entry using coordinates or map interaction.
- Hazardous material search by material name or placard number.
- Initial Isolation Zone and Protective Action Zone graphics.
- Optional Fire Isolation Zone.
- Optional BLEVE Isolation Zone for applicable materials.
- Day/night and wind direction inputs.
- Configurable operational layer.
- Configurable location and zone styling.
- Zone outline and fill symbology.
- Map-based interaction.
- English, French, and Spanish translations.

## Requirements

- ArcGIS Experience Builder 1.16 or later.
- A Map widget in the Experience Builder app.
- A valid Cartinuum widget license.
- Any operational layers required for saving or publishing results.
- ArcGIS sign-in and suitable privileges if users will publish hosted layers.

## Troubleshooting

### The widget does not connect to the map

Check that a Map widget has been selected and that the map has finished loading.

### Zones do not appear

Check that:

- The incident location has been provided.
- A material has been selected.
- Required spill conditions have been completed.
- Zone styling is configured.
- The map is visible and available.

### Results are hard to see

Adjust the outline, fill, colour, or transparency settings.

### Publishing fails

Check that:

- You are signed in to your ArcGIS organisation or portal.
- Your user role can create hosted feature layers.
- The configured operational layer is available, if publishing to an existing layer.
