[The Follow Me widget](https://extensions.cartinuum.com/product/follow-me/) displays the user's current location on the map and can keep the map centred as the user moves.

Use this widget when an Experience Builder app needs real-time location awareness for field, mobile, or situational awareness workflows.

## What this widget does

Follow Me uses the browser's location capability to show the user's current position on the selected map. It can display heading and accuracy information and optionally resume following after the user manually pans or zooms the map.

## When to use it

Use Follow Me when users need to:

- See their current location on the map.
- Keep the map centred on their location.
- View heading information while moving.
- Understand location accuracy.
- Use an Experience Builder app in the field.

## Key features

- Real-time current location display.
- Configurable location colour.
- Optional heading indicator.
- Optional accuracy circle.
- Optional automatic follow behaviour after manual map movement.
- Configurable resume delay.
- Configurable maximum zoom scale.
- English, French, and Spanish translations.

## Requirements

- [ArcGIS Experience Builder 1.14 or later](https://developers.arcgis.com/experience-builder/guide/release-versions/).
- A Map widget in the Experience Builder app.
- A browser and device that support location services.
- User permission to access device location.
- A valid Cartinuum widget license.

## Before you begin

Before configuring Follow Me:

1. Add a Map widget to your Experience Builder app.
2. Confirm the app will be used in browsers/devices where location services are available.
3. Decide how closely the map should zoom to the user's location.
4. Install or enable the widget using the standard widget installation process.

For installation and licensing steps, see [Widget Installation](https://help.cartinuum.com/space/WC/4255481886/Widget+Installation).

## Add Follow Me to an app

1. Open your app in ArcGIS Experience Builder.
2. Add the Follow Me widget to the page.
3. Open the widget settings.
4. Add the widget license.
5. Select the Map widget.
6. Configure appearance and follow behaviour.
7. Save and publish the Experience Builder app.

## Configure the widget

| Setting | What it controls |
| --- | --- |
| Location colour | The colour used to show the user's location. |
| Show heading indicator | Displays heading direction when available. |
| Show accuracy circle | Displays the reported location accuracy. |
| Maximum zoom scale | The closest scale used when zooming to the user's location. |
| Resume following after manual pan/zoom | Restarts automatic following after the user moves the map manually. |
| Resume delay | Number of seconds to wait before following resumes. |

## Use the widget

1. Open the Experience Builder app.
2. Open Follow Me.
3. Allow the browser to access your location when prompted.
4. Review your current location on the map.
5. Move around to see the location update.
6. Pan or zoom the map manually if needed.

If resume following is enabled, the map will automatically return to following after the configured delay.

## Troubleshooting

### The browser does not ask for location permission

Check browser privacy settings and confirm that location access is allowed for the site.

### The location does not appear

Check that:

- A Map widget has been selected.
- Location services are enabled on the device.
- The browser has permission to use location.
- The app is being accessed over a secure connection where required by the browser.

### The map zooms in too far or not far enough

Adjust the maximum zoom scale in the widget settings.

### Following stops after I move the map

Enable "Resume following after manual pan/zoom" and configure the resume delay.
