[The Threat Analysis widget](https://extensions.cartinuum.com/product/threat-analysis/) helps users create safety, evacuation, and threat zones on an ArcGIS Experience Builder map.

Use this widget when users need to create distance-based zones from a threat location, review the affected area, and optionally publish the results for operational use.

## What this widget does

Threat Analysis creates one or more buffer zones around a location. The location can be drawn interactively, entered as a fixed coordinate, or selected from an existing feature layer.

The widget includes configurable threat types and zone distances. App authors can configure default threat types, units, operational layers, and zone symbology.

## When to use it

Use Threat Analysis when users need to:

- Create evacuation, isolation, or safety zones.
- Draw threat zones from a map location.
- Generate zones from existing features.
- Use predefined threat types and distances.
- Publish threat-zone outputs to a feature layer.
- Support operational planning, incident response, or field coordination workflows.

## Key features

- Interactive threat location drawing.
- Fixed coordinate input.
- Threat locations from existing features.
- Configurable threat types and zones.
- Distance units in metres or feet.
- Configurable outline and fill symbology for each zone.
- Geodesic buffer and ring generation.
- Optional publishing to a new feature service or existing layer.
- English, French, and Spanish translations.

## Requirements

- [ArcGIS Experience Builder 1.16 or later](https://developers.arcgis.com/experience-builder/guide/release-versions/).
- A Map widget in the Experience Builder app.
- Feature layers in the map if users will create zones from existing features.
- A valid Cartinuum widget license.
- ArcGIS sign-in and suitable publishing privileges if users will publish results.

## Before you begin

Before configuring Threat Analysis:

1. Add a Map widget to your Experience Builder app.
2. Decide which threat types and zones should be available.
3. Decide whether users should create zones interactively, from fixed coordinates, from existing features, or all three.
4. Prepare an operational layer if results should be saved or published.
5. Install or enable the widget using the standard widget installation process.

For installation and licensing steps, see [Widget Installation](https://help.cartinuum.com/space/WC/4255481886/Widget+Installation).

## Add Threat Analysis to an app

1. Open your app in ArcGIS Experience Builder.
2. Add the Threat Analysis widget to the page.
3. Open the widget settings.
4. Add the widget license.
5. Select the Map widget.
6. Configure the operational layer and default units.
7. Configure the default input location type.
8. Configure threat types and threat zones.
9. Save and publish the Experience Builder app.

## Configure the widget

### License

Add the license file or license key provided with your Cartinuum widget subscription.

### Map

Select the Map widget that Threat Analysis should use.

### General configuration

| Setting | What it controls |
| --- | --- |
| Operational layer | The layer used for results or publishing workflows. |
| Default units | The distance units used by default, either metres or feet. |
| Default input location | The starting input mode shown to users. |
| Layer to select features from | The default layer used when creating zones from existing features. |
| Default threat type | The threat type selected by default when the widget opens. |

### Threat types

Threat types define the zone distances and symbology used by the widget.

Each threat type can include one or more zones. Each zone can have:

- A name or description.
- A distance.
- Outline style, colour, and transparency.
- Fill colour and transparency.

## Use the widget

1. Open the Experience Builder app.
2. Open the Threat Analysis widget.
3. Choose an input location method.

5. Choose a threat type.
6. Review or adjust units.
7. Create the threat zones.
8. Review the zones on the map.
9. Publish or clear the results as required.

## Troubleshooting

### No map is available

Open the widget settings and select the Map widget that Threat Analysis should use.

### No features are available for existing-feature input

Check that the map contains queryable feature layers and that the correct layer has been configured.

### Publishing fails

Check that:

- You are signed in.
- Your ArcGIS role can create feature services.
- The target service or layer is available.
- The layer schema supports the output geometry and attributes.

### Zone distances look wrong

Confirm that the expected default units are selected and that zone distances are configured in the intended units.
